The location of Fair Skies is very special. It is situated on Foxhole Lane, 30 metres from the village’s two beaches and the excellent village shop, close to the heart of the old village, with quite wonderful vistas from the living room, main bedroom and garden. This comfortable house combines an amazing location with parking and a safe garden.

Fair Skies is a 60’s built bungalow transformed by its current owners into an unashamedly modern, white-walled open-plan living area with stunning views. Attractive fabrics, comfortable seating, modern kitchen and bathroom make this an enticing and practical holiday home.

The living room has relaxing sofas, tables, lamps, TV (with DVD player), radio and CD player. There is a small desk if you need to work, and of course Wi-Fi. On the bookshelves you will find guide books, maps and files of local information.
The house is exceptionally light and sunny, with a spacious modern kitchen area. All appliances in the kitchen (including a dishwasher, washer/drier and microwave) are up to date and the electric oven has a gas hob. The kitchen is well-equipped. The owner is a keen cook so if you are too, you will find all the utensils and appliances you may need. The dining area in the living room opens through french-doors on to a decked area with table and chairs and that wonderful view for ‘al-fresco’ dining and barbecuing.

The house is fully central-heated with a gas-fired boiler. The newly fitted bathroom has a large walk-in shower, washbasin, heated towel rail and WC with a tiled floor. Flooring throughout the rest of the house is oak-effect vinyl with floor rugs in the bedrooms and living room. The small interior hallway contains a cupboard with cleaning appliances and utensils, garden cushions; a folding cot, a child booster seat and a highchair are all available on request.  There is a shoe rack and pegs for your coats and boots, wet or dry!

Leading from the hall, both bedrooms are simple and restful with reportedly very comfortable beds. The main bedroom has a large picture window overlooking the sea with a king-sized bed, dressing table, chair and soft bedside rugs. Bedding is in keeping with the cool grey and sea green colour scheme. The twin bedded room faces south and has a marine, navy and white scheme. Both bedrooms have wardrobes, bedside tables, lamps, towel stands, mirrors and hair driers.

Outside, access to the house is on the level via a ramped path with a small step to the door. Fair Skies benefits from extensive parking, unusual in Gorran Haven; there is access via a gravelled entrance to a gated, tarmac drive with parking space for two cars (or boats).

The sunny garden surrounds the house and looks out over the sea to the Gwineas Rock. The garden is fenced/walled and gated with flower and shrub borders and a sizeable lawn in addition to the small lawn surrounding the deck; it is safe for children. There is a bench outside the front of the house that catches the morning sun; a perfect spot for a morning ‘cuppa’. Throughout the house there are pictures and photographs reflecting locations and artists of the area.

The website photos are all taken in the house or its garden, except the wonderful sunrise over the harbour.

All linen is provided with the exception of beach towels. A limited supply of essential cleaning products is to be found under the sink; toiletries are not provided.

Gorran Haven is an old fishing village halfway down the south coast of Cornwall. It is at the end of a quiet road to the sea, so no through traffic. The area is designated as one of outstanding natural beauty and Fair Skies, although modern, lies in the conservation area of the village.

Via the slipway there are two good sheltered and safe sandy beaches. There is an excellent village store, Cakebreads, and two or three cafes in season. This makes the village a cheery place during the day for families and children. There is no pub, but Cakebreads runs a bar in season. The village is quiet in the evening which we love.

Within easy reach, walking or driving, there are more secluded beaches (Vault and Hemmick are nearest).

Fair Skies is brilliantly situated for the beach, kayaking, canoeing, paddle-boarding and swimming or launching your boat; walking from the front door to the Coast Path takes seconds.

Whatever your age or interests this part of Cornwall has much to offer; The Lost Gardens of Heligan, the Eden Project, the gardens and castle at Caerhays are all less than 30 minutes away.

Fair Skies

Foxhole Lane, Gorran Haven, St Austell, Cornwall, PL26 6JP

First, get to St Austell, then… From the A390 in St. Austell (A390 is main Truro-Liskeard road) take the B3273 to Mevagissey (at the ‘B&Q’ / Mac Donald’s roundabout).

After one mile is the small village of London Apprentice; a further mile, the village of Pentewan. At Pentewan the B3273 ascends a long winding hill overlooking the sea on the left. Turn right at the cross-roads at the apex of the hill, following signs to the Lost Gardens of Heligan and Gorran Haven. (The alternative route to Gorran Haven, through Mevagissey is not recommended in Summer as there are often lengthy traffic queues in the narrow streets).

You will pass Heligan after crossing a narrow bridge and negotiating a sharp left hand bend. Follow the road for about four miles to Gorran churchtown – church is on the left – down and up a dip and around another sharpish left hand turn. A couple of hundred yards along is the right hand turn to Gorran Haven (sign-posted).

The road into Gorran Haven descends a long hill winding through the village, the road getting narrower and narrower. Past the car park field on the left, keep going straight on (towards the sea). You will see Cakebread’s bakery and shop on your left.

Further on with the beach right in front of you, you will see Foxhole Lane on your right, it requires a sharp turn uphill. Fair Skies is about 50 yards up on the right hand side.  There is plenty of space to pull in and park at the side of the cottage.

From the turn on to the B3273 in St. Austell to Gorran Haven should take about 25 minutes.

Contact: I will hope to see you to say hello during your stay, but if you should need anything, please don’t hesitate to call me on 01726 843122.

If you get the answer machine please leave a message because we are never far away and it is checked at frequent intervals.

Keys, arrival & departure:

The house will be ready by 4pm and we'll arrange key collection before your arrival. Check out time is 10am on the day of departure, please.

I hope you have a good journey and a lovely stay.

Action packed week

Another wonderful stay at Fair Skies, our favourite holiday cottage in Gorran Haven! This was an action packed week, we visited The Lost Gardens of Heligan on Sunday, The Eden Project on Monday, went mackerel fishing on Tuesday, shopping and crab fishing in Mevagissey on Wednesday, saw the spectacular castle at Tintagel on Thursday, and walked the headland trail to Vault beach on Friday. Of course we managed to put in some time for rest and relaxation along the way! Fair Skies is a beautiful light filled home, in a perfect location in this charming seaside village. We all love it here and we will return. Thanks so much Sally & Mike for helping make this anotherwonderful holiday. Very best, James, Ana & babes.

Yay! It's lovely to read your description of doing everything. We love seeing you. Fond regards Sally

Rocky Road and sandwiches

I liked going to the beachand making sandcastles, swimming in the sea and getting icecream from the Mermaid cafe. Min liked drawing the flowers in the garden, going to the beach and swimming. Mum liked playing with me and Min on the beach, mugs of tea on the beach and Rocky Road. Dad liked lying in the sun, exploring beaches and sandwiches made by Mummy. I really liked coming here. Thank you Sally from Dan, Min Tracey & Nick :)

Thank you Dan that is a brilliant description. It will be great to see you again and I'll show you the secret rock pool. Sally x

Fine bungalow

Thank you for another lovely stay in Fair Skies (our second home). The garden is so nice and we have enjoyed seeing everything grow since Autumn. We are not bothered about weather as we know we will all be fine in bungalow. Lovely and snug.

Convenient and accessible house

Our needs are pretty specific especially because of Anne's continuing mobility problem e.g. car parking, ground floor bedroom, sheer distance from beach. We find Fair Skies ideal. We will be back soon.

It's always nice to see you both. Thank you for returning. Thanks too test running the house for mobility issues, we appreciate your comments. Kindest regards, Sally

Our 1st holiday as a family bringing our lovely 6 month old here. We have been staying in Gorran Haven for over 10 years. Our 1st time staying at Fair Skies, it has been magical. We will def stay again, the views, gardens, house layout and the comfy bedshave made our stay, but the glorious weather 25C+ has just topped up the stay.Very sad to be leaving but we will be back. 10/10 :)

Mist clears

Fair Skies is a lovely comfortable house. The views from all the rooms are wonderful. Gorran Haven is very pretty. Sadly the weather has not been good this week - the coastal path walking is scenic once the rain stops and the mist clears! Everyone in the village is friendly and helpful, I will recommend it to others.
