This is a lovely house. The front door (less than 100m from the beach) looks as if it belongs to a modest cottage, but venture inside and there is a spacious home from home with a wonderful garden and courtyard behind it. It has one twin, one double and one bunk bedded room plus the added benefit of 2 sitting rooms

To the charming, traditional features have been added modern comforts to make a stay as relaxing as possible. It is a well considered, Cornish beach-style home.

The house lends itself well to different family groups; the twin bedroom with en suite shower room is downstairs and suitable for older children or grand parents for example. Positioned on the South West Coast Path it gives immediate access to spectacular cliff walks in both directions and to Gorran Haven's two superb beaches and local amenities.

The main entrance to Wren's Nest is a wooden sliding door opening to the net loft, a spacious area for coming in off the sands, with all beach toys and accessories available. The fridge, freezer, washing machine and tumble dryer complete this as a true utility room. This opens into the kitchen/dining room with an original beamed ceiling, eight-seater dining table. The kitchen is well stocked with crockery and a dish-washer.

Downstairs, overlooking the courtyard, is bedroom three, with twin beds and en suite shower room with basin and WC.

The courtyard is a convenient outdoor dining area with large table and chairs, barbeque and sail-cloth awning. There are openings into the net loft and downstairs landing and to the garden beyond up some steps.

Upstairs there are two sitting rooms - one at the front with a large library and dual aspect sash windows that overlook the garden and courtyard, and the other, at the rear, with sofas, open fireplace, large flatscreen TV and DVD player. This opens out into a separate glass-fronted sunroom with seating overlooking the upper garden.

The master bedroom with king-size bed is comfortable, bright and airy, with dual aspect sash windows and exposed floorboards.

Bedroom two has large, three-foot twin bunkbeds, overlooks the courtyard, and has a built-in cupboard for storage.

The main bathroom is nautically themed with bath, pedestal basin and WC.

The large, lawned garden slopes behind the house with magnificent views across the village to a wooded hillside, and benefits from not being overlooked. There is also a level seating/dining area under the apple tree.Like all these old fishermen's cottages, there is no parking but parking is available at the bottom of the hill in the village car park (£24 per week). It is possible to stop outside the cottage to unload.

Wren's Nest is at the top of Church Street, which leads directly to the beach, just past the tiny 14th Century chapel of St Just.

‘Wren’s Nest’

Church Street, Gorran Haven, St Austell, Cornwall,

PL26 6JH

First, get to St Austell, then… From the A390 in St. Austell (A390 is main Truro-Liskeard road) take the B3273 to Mevagissey (at the ‘B&Q’ / Mac Donald’s roundabout).

After one mile is the small village of London Apprentice; a further mile, the village of Pentewan. At Pentewan the B3273 ascends a long winding hill overlooking the sea on the left. Turn right at the cross-roads at the apex of the hill, following signs to the Lost Gardens of Heligan and Gorran Haven. (The alternative route to Gorran Haven, through Mevagissey is not recommended in Summer as there are often lengthy traffic queues in the narrow streets).

You will pass Heligan Gardens (with useful farm shop) after crossing a narrow bridge and negotiating a sharp left hand bend. Follow the road for about five miles to Gorran Churchtown – church is on the left – down and up a dip and around another sharpish left hand turn. A couple of hundred yards along is the right hand turn to Gorran Haven (sign-posted).

The road into Gorran Haven descends a long hill (Bell Hill) winding through the village to the sea. To reach Wren’s Nest you must turn left at the grassy triangle (with red telephone box) . Go along ‘Chute lane’, past the Llawnroc hotel on left, continue on down hill, the road divides into Cliff Road and Church Street. Wren’s Nest is the first on the right as you descend Church Street.

You will see a pull in space on the left hand side of Church Street opposite Wren’s Nest’s steps front door. You can usually stop here to unload. If by any chance, it’s already occupied, don’t worry, stop in the road. The traffic is normally sparse and in the village it’s understood that stopping and unpacking has to be done! The main part of the village was built before cars were invented. When you’ve finished, the car park is down the hill (past the beach on left), turn right and keep going up main street about 300 metres until you see carpark field on your right (weekly ticket about is £15). It’s aprox 6 minutes walk back to the cottage.

From the turn on to the B3273 in St. Austell to Gorran Haven should take about 25 minutes.

Key Collection, arrival etc:

The cottage will be ready by 4pm and we will be in touch before your arrival with key collection information. The entrance is via the netloft sliding door, which is slightly down the hill from the front door (has inset black garage type door).

Check out is 10am on the day of departure, please.
