A lovely comfortable cottage. One of the old Coastguard Cottages in Gorran Haven. It has been wonderfully restored & brought up to date, while still retaining a traditional feel. As you would expect for a coastguard's house it has lovely sea views and is only a 2 minute walk from both the main beach at Gorran Haven, as well as its namesake beach Little Perhaver, which is accessible down some steep steps a short walk from the cottage. The cottage is particularly special because of its beautiful garden - full of amazing plants and flowers, it really has a fairytale feel to it.

This cottage works well as a quiet hideaway for a couple or with Beachcliff (opposite) and Sea Witch (very close by) for a larger family stay.

Little Perhaver Cottage in the middle of the terrace of nineteenth century coastguard cottages. It overlooks the harbour and out to sea from an elevated position above Little Perhaver beach.

This cottage is both cosy and traditional and comfortably modern. It would be the perfect place to stay for a garden enthusiast, the rear garden is beautifully planted with a seating area at the top, with shade of apple tree. The front terrace has a south facing patio with more planting below. Outside dining table and chairs.

Built in the days when the residents of Gorran Haven needed a bit of law inforcement in their midst to discourage the trade in contraband the coastguards were settled here from outside the area and had the job of keeping an eye on things. All rather more genteel now, I think

Little Perhaver has a parking for one car in the enclosed area below it (shared with the neighbouring cottage) off the quite narrow, Cliff Road.

From the gravelled parking area steps and a path lead through flower beds and palm trees to a slate terrace with outdoor furniture with a sea view. Solid fencing either side provides privacy.

At the rear of the cottage, sloping upwards gently, is a magical garden with winding pathways through lovely shrubs to a seating area under an apple tree. This garden is not however ideal for small children because it is so fully planted.

Downstairs: From the front terrace, the front door opens onto a large living room with kitchen and dining area at the rear and sitting room area at the front. There is fireplace with log burner, traditional Chesterfield type sofa and two upright armchairs (all with firm upholstery and scatter cushions) in the front. Sash windows at front and rear let in lots of light. Very pleasant traditionally styled interior with everything you need to relax on holiday. Downstairs has original polished wooden flooring with rugs.

The kitchen is well equipped and there is a dishwasher, microwave and an Aga cooker which also runs the heating system. At the rear of the kitchen there is a utility room/porch (washing machine, tumble dryer) with back door to rear garden.

Upstairs: carpeted stairs lead to landing.

At a bathroom with enclsoed shower, basin and WC. Window onto garden.

Next to this is the single bedroom with 3 foot wide single bed, large wardrobe and window overlooking garden.

At the front, double bedroom with en suite bathroom. Bedroom has two large sash windows with lovely sea views. Double bed with bent cane headboard (firm mattress). Built in wardrobe, antique chest of drawers, plenty of books on bookcase. A nice room to see the activity of the harbour.

En suite bathroom has bath, basin and wc.

Little Perhaver

2 The Coastguard Cottages Terrace, Cliff Road, Gorran Haven, Nr St Austell, PL26 6JN

First, get to St Austell, then… From the A390 in St. Austell (A390 is main Truro-Liskeard road) take the B3273 to Mevagissey (at the ‘B&Q’ / Mac Donald’s roundabout).

After one mile is the small village of London Apprentice; a further mile or so, the village of Pentewan. At Pentewan the B3273 ascends a long winding hill overlooking the sea on the left.

Turn right at the cross-roads at the apex of the hill, following signs to the Lost Gardens of Heligan and Gorran Haven.

The alternative route to Gorran Haven, through Mevagissey is not recommended in Summer as there are often lengthy traffic queues in the narrow streets. If you have a Satellite Navigation System it will probably suggest you go through Mevagissey, but this requires some fortitude!

Assuming you turn right, then: You will pass Heligan Gardens after crossing a narrow bridge and negotiating a sharp left hand bend. Follow the road for about five miles to Gorran Churchtown – church is on the left – down and up a dip and around another sharpish left hand turn. A couple of hundred yards along is the right hand turn to Gorran Haven (sign-posted).

The road into Gorran Haven descends a long hill (Bell Hill) past a triangle of green with a telephone box. At this point turn left (past the telephone box) along the incredibly narrow Chute lane. It widens out after a short while. Keep going past the Llawnroc Hotel (Cornwall spelt backwards). Cliff Road is the second road on the left. The junction is on the bend, which continues down hill (Church Street) to the beach. Turn left into Cliff Road, and about 30 metres on left you will see the gated parking area in front of Little Perhaver and Trygva. They are the two white painted cottages in the middle of the terrace of Coastguard Cottages.

From the turn on to the B3273 in St. Austell to Gorran Haven should take about 25 minutes.
