Sea Mew is named after the 'mewing' call a gull makes when wheeling overhead in the bright, blue summer sky. This nice, neat cottage is in the centre of Gorran Haven village, a short, level (102 paces) walk to the beach. It is close enough to pop back and fetch coffee, beer and forgotten beach toys in less than a minute. It is right in the centre of things, but tucked away and quiet inside. Much loved by young families (and dog friendly too). WiFi & dishwasher.

Sea Mew is a nice, convenient holiday cottage, with excellent access to the beach and local shops. It was once a fisherman's cottage, but since my childhood it's always had cheery families with sandy feet popping in and out on holiday. Sympathetically and well maintained, it is a nice homely and traditional place to stay.

A floral topped low garden wall and gate enclose the small slate courtyard by the front door. This has a quiet, sunny outlook being tucked away to the side of the village street next to the high natural bank which borders Canton. The courtyard is a nice place to sit quietly and read, or perfect for sundowners before supper. There is a BBQ too.

The glazed porch has coat pegs and a place to leave buckets, spades, nets etc.

This opens onto a good sized dining room with galley kitchen off to the side through an archway. There's a large pine dining table seating six, dresser and original fitted cupboards containing crockery and glassware. There's also a good supply of games and books.

The kitchen will only take one cook but they are still part of the action just by the dining area. There's a dishwasher, electric ceramic-topped cooker with grill and oven, larder fridge and microwave. The washing machine and counter-top freezer are in a separate utility area also off the dining room.

Beyond the dining room at the seaward side of the cottage, there is the sitting room which has a window that looks straight down the main village street to the sea (although you can see down the street, the street can't see you as there's a net curtain). Here there is a slate fireplace with electric fire, two sofas, coffee and side tables and two lamps. It is also equipped with a 32 inch TV and DVD player, CD radio and selection of DVDs and CDs.

From the dining area, a short hallway (containing the washing machine and counter top freezer) leads to the bathroom.

The bathroom has very recently been completely refurbished with floor-to-ceiling sunny yellow tiles and a delightful yachty theme throughout. It has sparkling new fittings - bath, WC and hand basin. There is an electric shower over the bath. There is also an electric-heated towel rail and frosted glass window.

The stairs lead up from the rear of the dining room to the landing with a very handy second WC and hand basin.

The double bedroom has a double divan bed and also single bed. There's a pine wardrobe, chest of drawers, bedside tables with lamps and vanity unit with hand basin. The window looks quietly up the street inland and past leafy bank alongside.

Across the landing, the twin bedroom has a pair of single divan beds, a pine wardrobe, a chest of drawers and bedside tables with lamps. The window looks out over the side path behind the cottage, to the bank beyond. The airing cupboard with immersion heater and spare bedding is in the corner.

They are both nice comfy cottage bedrooms and both have space for a cot and there is a travel cot, high chair and stair gate in the cottage if required (please bring your own baby bedding).

The stairs, upper floor and the sitting room have carpet, vinyl flooring elsewhere. The heating is electric, with night storage heaters in all rooms except the bathroom which has an electric towel rail. Thick walls and double glazed windows keep it comfortably warm all year.

Outside at the rear, there is a secure shed (containing the BBQ) where you can keep your body boards, toys and inflatables.

Parking during May to September is in the nearby car park (currently payable locally at £22 a week. It is possible to pull up outside to unload and out of these Summer months, roadside parking is permitted.

Happy paddling.

Sea Mew cottage is on 'Canton' - the main street in Gorran Haven, which leads down to the beach.

A lovely home

Our family enjoyed a wonderful extended stay at Sea Mew as we had sold our house and needed temporary accommodation whilst our new one became ready. See Mew is quaint, clean and cozy with comfy beds and all the necessaries. Although the kitchen is bijou it’s well equipped and perfectly adequate. Sea Mew has a warm and homely feel and is a perfect base for exploring the beautiful South Cornwall Coast. We can recommend the local shop cake breads and the fish and chip shop. Sally is so very helpful and nothing is too much trouble, as are the owners of this lovely little escape. Thankyou x

A wonderful seaside cottage - right by the beach!

We had a wonderful half-term at Sea Mew and will certainly come again. This is a great cosy holiday cottage! Gorran Haven truly is a little gem tucked away and perfect for young families. The main beach is wonderfully secluded with shops and amenities conveniently on hand. It is also a great base for for coastal walks to enjoy the neighbouring Vault Beach, or slightly further on to take in the uninterrupted coastal and sea views from Dodman's Point. The cottage is literally less than a minute's walk to the beach which is ideal for little legs. The village shop(s) and fish & chips are even closer so you don't need to get the car out! The accommodation was perfect for our family of four. A comfortable lounge with sofas and TV/DVD's, etc. and even board games for any rainy days (fortunately the weather was amazing so we did not use these)! The dining area has ample room to seat 8 comfortably, so we were also able to have friends over which was lovely. A fabulous holiday cottage! Highly recommended!

Thank you, we loved having you to stay. Looking forward to seeing you again. Sally & Mike
