Zion Cottage is a good traditional cottage on the hill leading to Gorran Haven beach. It has two bedrooms but can sleep 6 as there are neat built in bunk beds in the 2nd bedroom
Zion cottage is an old 2-storey fisherman's cottage on the road which winds down to the beach at Gorran Haven. It is full of character, still having the old wooden floors, oak beams and low ceilings.
You enter straight off the small pathway which is signposted to Little Perhaver Beach, just off Church Street. You are directly into the dining-kitchen. This is light and airy, decorated in a white and blue scheme with white bare floor-boards and Shaker-style units. There is a dining table with bench seats and 2 chairs from which you can observe the comings and goings on Church Street (but critically they can't see you as you are elevated above the street).
The kitchen has a modern American-style fridge and electric cooker; it is equipped with all the necessary cooking equipment. From here a narrow hallway leads to both bedrooms. The first bedroom is a brightly decorated double, again with a view over the street below. The second bedroom has twin beds and a built- in sturdy bunk bed so it can actually sleep 2 adults and 2 children. The somewhat steep stairs take you down to the cosy living room. This is traditionally decorated with one wall of exposed stone and another of wood panelling. The ceiling has original oak beams and the floor is tiling covered by rugs.
Although you can see Church Street through the windows, again privacy is maintained by the net curtains. The bathroom is also located on this lower floor. It is equipped with an electric shower over the bath, plus basin and WC. Next to the bathroom is a small utility room with washing machine and tumble drier. This property is ideal for its location so close to the beach - the path to Little Perhaver beach actually goes past the front door!
Although there is no outside private space, the beach can be reached within 1 minute.
Like all of these fishermen's cottages, there is no parking at the property although it is possible to pull up outside and unload. The car then has to be parked at the nearby village car park at the bottom of the hill (at a cost of £24 a week). The cottage is equipped with a stair gate but it must be advised that the stairs, whilst quaint and in-keeping with the property, are steep and the bathroom is on the lower floor and the bedrooms are on the upper floor.

Church Street, Gorran Haven, St Austell, Cornwall,
First, get to St Austell, then… From the A390 in St. Austell (A390 is main Truro-Liskeard road) take the B3273 to Mevagissey (at the ‘B&Q’ / Mac Donald’s roundabout).
After one mile is the small village of London Apprentice; a further mile, the village of Pentewan. At Pentewan the B3273 ascends a long winding hill overlooking the sea on the left. Turn right at the cross-roads at the apex of the hill, following signs to the Lost Gardens of Heligan and Gorran Haven. (The alternative route to Gorran Haven, through Mevagissey is not recommended in summer, as there are often lengthy traffic queues in the narrow streets).
You will pass Heligan (with excellent farm shop) after crossing a narrow bridge and negotiating a sharp left hand bend. Follow the road for about four miles to Gorran Churchtown – church is on the left – down and up a dip and around another sharpish left hand turn. A couple of hundred yards along is the right hand turn to Gorran Haven (sign-posted).
The road into Gorran Haven descends a long hill (Bell Hill) winding through the village to the sea. To reach Marigold Cottage you must turn left at the grassy triangle (with red telephone box), along ‘Chute lane’, past the Llawnroc Hotel on left, continue on down hill, the road divides into Cliff Road and Church Street. Zion Cottage is third on the left (at the sign to Little Perhaver Beach). There is just enough room to pull in to unload and then you’ll need to head downhill, turn right and head to the village car-park, 200 m on the right.
From the turn on to the B3273 in St. Austell to Gorran Haven should take about 25 minutes.
