Melville Cottage, Rattle Street, Gorran Haven

Lovely, neat, sunny and close to the beach in Gorran Haven. Just what you need for an uncomplicted sandy holiday. This cottage has been brilliantly modernised keeping the traditional proportions, but adding a double storey living space with dining area and balcony to bedrooms. In front there's a small walled yard with room for bbq and/or keeping your inflatable boat...

Melville Cottage is very conveniently placed just up Rattle Street (tiny pedestrian cobbled lane). From the front door to the sand is 100 paces unless you go into the bakers on the way.

Cottage Layout

DOWNSTAIRS

The frontdoor opens into the living space which is the whole of the ground floor. In the old days this was three tiny dark & cosy rooms and the present design has retained the original beams and general dimensions, but by removing the partition walls there's a much more useful space for modern living. Tiled flooring with rugs.

Kitchen area with fitted units, fitted grill oven, glass topped electric hob. Frdge freezer. Microwave, toaster etc. Two windows onto Rattle Street.

The sittingroom area has fireplace (not functioning) with sofa and armchairs. Window onto Rattle Street.

The front section is the clever new part, a double height room with dining table and stairs to original landing and bedrooms.

Four windows to the roof and front wall face south and fill the cottage with light. Over looking the courtyard and from the landing the hillside and cliff.

UPSTAIRS

Sea green fitted carpet and original staircase and bedroom layout.

Main bedroom with kingsize bed and window onto Rattle Street.

Bedroom two with very solid pine bunk bed. Lower bunk is double and top bunk is single. Window looks across Rattle Street to the allotments.

Bathroom with blue bathroom suite, WC, pedestal sink and bath with electric shower over. Window onto Rattle St.

The Courtyard and Beach access

In front of the cottage a waist high wall surrounds a slate courtyard (aprox 2x4 mtrs) with quiet aspect. A nice sunny place to sit out or cook or keep very sandy things. There's an outdoor tap for rinsing feet etc. Rattle Street is pedestrian only, being quite narrow. It leads onto the main street which endson the beach. Front door to beach took me 100 steps. The pasty shop is just around the corner.

Location

The cottage is in the old part of Gorran Haven. It was the home of a fisherman and is well placed for quick checks on the sea. Or for nipping back home to fetch things from beach.
