Little Perhaver Cottage, Cliff Road, Gorran Haven

A lovely comfortable cottage. One of the old Coastguard Cottages in Gorran Haven. It has been wonderfully restored & brought up to date. As you would expect for a coastguard's house - lovely sea views! You would not expect such a plantsman's garden though.

A very rare find, this cottage. It works well as a quiet hideaway for a couple or with Trygva nextdoor for a larger family stay.

Little Perhaver Cottage is in the middle of the terrace of pretty nineteenth century cottages built in the days when the residents of Gorran Haven needed a bit of law inforcement in their midst to discourage the trade in contraband. All rather more genteel now, I think. The cottage overlooks the harbour and out to sea from an elevated position above Little Perhaver beach.

This cottage is both cosy and traditional and comfortably modern. It would be the perfect place to stay for a garden enthusiast, the rear garden is beautifully planted with a seating area. The front terrace has a south facing patio with more planting below. The cottage nextdoor Trygva (which sleeps 5/6) can be reached through a discreet door on the front terrace.

Layout

Outside:

Cliff Road is a narrow lane above Gorran Haven beach. Little Perhaver and Trygva Cottages have a shared private parking area below them, off the lane.

From the gravelled parking area steps and a path lead through lovely flower beds and palm trees to a terrace with outdoor furniture with a sea view. Solid fencing either side provides privacy, but Trygva can be reached through a door in the right hand fence.

At the rear of the cottage, sloping upwards gently, is a magical garden with winding pathway through lovely shrubs to a pretty seating area under an apple tree. This garden is not however ideal for small children because it is so fully planted.

Inside:

Downstairs: From the front terrace, an original panelled front door opens onto a large living room with kitchen and dining area at the rear and fireplace with comfy sofa and armchairs in the front. Sash windows at front and rear let in lots of light. Very pleasant traditionally styled interior with everything you need to relax on holiday. Downstairs has original polished wooden flooring with rugs.

The kitchen is very well equipped and there is a dishwasher, microwave and an Aga cooker which also runs the heating system. At the rear of the kitchen there isutility room/porch (washing machine, tumble dryer) at the rear with back door to rear garden.

Upstairs: carpeted stairs lead to landing.

At the rear a bathroom with enclsed shower, basin and WC.

Next to this is the single bedroom with 3 foot wide single bed and window overlooking rear garden.

At the front, double bedroom with en suite bathroom. Bedroom has two large sash windows with lovely sea views.

En suite bathroom has bath, basin and wc.

Beach access and walking

The smaller of Gorran Havens two beaches - Little Perhaver is directly below the cottage, but is reached by a pathway and steep steps about 4 minutes walk down the hill. The main beach (which connects with Little Perhaver at low tide) is another minute down the hill. The main beach has a quay and a stream and rockpools. Fine sand, deckchair and kayaks for hire. The beach cafe serves tea etc. in real mugs on beach.

If you walk further up Cliff road for about 3 minutes, you will come to the lovely coastal path which runs along the clifftops to Portmellon and Mevagissey. It is an enjoyable 3 mile walk which takes you to the pub at Portmellon or several cafes etc. at Mevagissey. Bus or taxi can be collected home from Mevagissey if required.

Location

Gorran Haven is a quiet friendly village with an excellent village bakery and general store plus a small number of seasonal shops and cafes in Summer. The village pub/hotel (the Llawnroc) will reopen at Easter 2011 after very extensive rebuilding and the Barley Sheaf at Gorran Churchtown is a mile away nd serves excellent food.

Heligan Gardens is a wonder to see (very suitable connection with this cottage garden) within 7 miles and serves superb lunches using very local produce from the gardens and nearby. The Schoolhouse Restaurant in Pentewan is a good place for supper - french in style with local fish and good wines (no one pays me to say this!).
