This very local Local Guide is not quite finished(!) but will be soon. In the meantime, here are just a few things I would recommend.

Places to eat...

There are several good restaurants locally, but here are two for the moment:

The School House in Pentewan
The Salamander, Mevagissey

Both these have a good reputation for good quality, very fresh local produce (superb fish). Both are child friendly, but later in the evening are quieter for adult time.

Things to do...

Kids Cornwall is a really useful guide written and compiled by the parents, children and friends of Gorran School.

Heligan & Eden: This area is now strongly associated with two very successful ventures the Lost Gardens of Heligan and the Eden Project, they could hardly be more different and are both well worth visiting.

Local Food Shopping...

Lobbs Farm Shop next to Heligan Gardens is run by the Lobb brothers who have farmed the adjacent land for generations, they employ environmentally friendly methods. They sell beef, lamb and vegetables from their farm; Also good local cheeses and various good quality items, icluding pate olives, wine, ice cream, home made cake etc.

Humphrey's just outside Tregony, on the way to Truro – another excellent farm shop. Again, really fresh farm produce. Very good ice cream, also milk, cream & butter dairy products from the neighbouring Barwick farm organic herd of Jerseys.Humphrey's, Newton Farm, Tregony 01872 530417 (no website as yet)
Barwick Farm Tregony 01872 530208

Del Monico's Wine Emporium, This a real find - tucked away in a corner of St Austell, it has all manner of excellent wines and spirits, also quite a stock of things like tinned truffles, escargot & so on. David Del Monico's father ran the famous soho wine shop. David chooses the stock himself, there are excellent French wines and much from the New World. Some very reasonable wines, some rare and wonderful ones, some very obscure spirits etc. David himself quite an entertainment. You have to visit, no website and I'm not sure if he answers the phone.
A real treat. Parking in front of the shop.
