Toddy Cottage

Toddy Cottage is one of the original fisherman's cottages up Church Street. It is opposite the little church of St Just and from the sittingroom window you look out to sea along the passageway beside the church.

This little house is on on three floors and has been properly renovated. Although it is small, it has been very well thought out so that everything fits and can be found.

From the narrow one-way street you enter the kitchen. It has a breakfast bar and a wall of fitted units including an integral fridge freezer. They are all white and good quality. There is an original paned window overlooking the street.

The stairs (quite narrow and steep) take you to the sitting room which has windows in two walls, one with a sea view. There is a large flat screen tv, and armchairs. Although a compact room, it is tastefully furnished and well-appointed.

You go through a door to another flight of stairs and now intriguingly this top floor is twice the size. The main bedroom has a kingsize bed and window with sea view (visible from the bed), wardrobe and chest of drawers. Across the small landing there is a family bathroom with small sized bath and shower over, wc, basin. There is a lovely small window from which you can see the beach.

There is a small bright bunk-bedded second bedroom facing the front of the house also with a nice view. The bunks are sturdy, but better suited to children than adults.

Parking is in the village carpark about 400 metres away (£24 per week in 2017). It is possible to stop right outside the front door to load and unload, although this blocks the street for a while - everyone expects this and a gentle tolerance is Gorran Haven's default mood!

There is no outdoor space (fishermen had allotments nearby so did not need gardens), but the beach is really close.

A very nice cottage for a romantic twosome or a small family.

Gorran Haven has its own following - people who have come for years and years for their holidays. It is a small fishing village halfway down the south coast of Cornwall.

It is buzzing in Summer but still basically a small community all centred on the two lovely village beaches. There are a handful of cafes and the all round village shop. The village attracts families in the school holidays and is very good for young children. It is also a really beautiful place (an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty) and cliff walking or just dozing on a secluded beach is a great pleasure. In winter it is very quiet here and sometimes the weather is rough - ideal time to get some peace here. Toddy cottage is cosy and warm.
