Sea Mew, Canton, Gorran Haven
Sea Mew is the noise a sea gull makes in case you are wondering. This nice neat cottage is right in the middle of Gorran Haven village and a short level (102 paces) walk to the beach. It is right in the centre of things, but tucked away and quiet inside.

Sea Mew is a very nice, sunny and convenient holiday cottage, with excellent access to the beach and the bakers. It is an old building and was once a 'proper' fisherman's cottage, but since my childhood it's always had cheery families with sandy feet popping in and out on holiday. It has been well maintained and looked after in that time and has been completely refurbished recently, so even after all these years it is in very good shape and a nice place to stay.
Layout
Outside: There is a small enclosed paved area by the front door, with stone wall surround. It is big enough for beach things, deck chair and BBQ, but if it's a huge garden you want, think beach.
Glazed porch with outdoor chairs and BBQ, also coat pegs and a place to leave nets etc.
Dining room: this is a good sized room with the kitchen off it. There is a large pine dining table and seating for six. Old beamed ceiling and original cupboards containing the china, dresser with lots of games and books.
The kitchen will only take one cook, it is a galley kitchen, but has everything you need, ceramic topped cooker with grill and oven, fridge and microwave. The washing machine and countertop freezer are in a separate utility area also off the dining room.
At the seaward side of the cottage is the sitting room with window that looks straight down the main village street to the sea (although you can see down the street, the street can't see you). It has stone fireplace with electric fire. Two sofas and an armchair. 28 inch TV and DVD player. This is a quiet relaxing room separate from the family dining/living area.
The bathroom is on this floor, it has wc, pedestal sink and bath with electric shower over. Besside the bathroom is the utility area with washing machine and freezer.
Stairs up to landing with second wc.
Double bedroom with double divan bed and additional single. Range of pine fitted cupboards containing drawers and wardrobe space. Hand basin.
Twin bedroom with twin divan beds, wardrobe and chest of drawers, airing cupboard with immersion heater.
The upstairs and the sitting room is carpeted, the downstairs is vinyl flooring. There is night storage heating.
Cot, high chair and baby gate are available.
Location
The cottage is on 'Canton' - the main street in Gorran Haven which leads down to the beach. On this there is the village shop, Cakebread's which sells lovely pasties and fresh baked bread both made on the premises. It's also the post office and general store with things from wine to washing powder via carrots and jam. There is parking on the street at night (after 6) but it is usually easier to park in the village car park (a large field) nearby and forget the car. The main street is not busy with fast moving cars - at all times of the year this is a street with people walking down the middle of it. Cars have no where to go as the road stops at the beach, so most cars park further up.
