Kernewek is one of two houses (Sycamores being the other) set in a large lawned garden, they are quite separate and are a good distance apart so by no means overlooking each other, but they would be good as a pair if you are holidaying with two families. The garden is not formally divided, but it is private and peaceful and each house has it's own secluded space around it.
The driveway to the houses is just off quiet Chute Lane and the site is surrounded by tall Cornish hedges. The beach is a short walk down the hill and the cliffpath or other lovely walks are easily reached from the frontdoor.
Kernewek has a parking area by the driveway. From here a short path leads down to the front door. The Front door opens into a large kitchen diningroom. The dining table easily seats 8, the solid wooden floor and beige wood panelling over the fireplace are natural tones around the relaxing area - in contrast to the white, well made kitchen where I think you could cook a proper meal.
Glass doors lead to a sittingroom with windows along three walls overlooking the garden. French doors open onto the slate terrace. Above the fireplace with log burner there is a flat screen tv.
From the terrace and from inside, you have a rare view - uncluttered by other people! Across the valley there are woods and fields, down towards the sea there are other houses, but none are very close at hand. The garden has a tree house (not in tree, see picture). A nice quiet spot.
The bedrooms are off a corridor,
Double bedroom on the left has bay window with sea views.
Twin bedroom also with sea views.
Main bedroom with kingsize bed and en suite shower and wc.
The showers in this house are all very high tech (computerised) highly efficient.
Family bathroom with shower over bath and wc.
The house has a safe - not sure you'll need one in Gorran Haven though.
The garden is large and gently sloping, there are plenty of places to sit and enjoy the sun (garden furniture supplied) or for children to run around with a gated driveway.
Chute Lane continues along past the Llawnroc hotel and pub (150 metres) to the beach at the bottom of Church Street, about 5 minutes walk. It is possible to drive down the hill and drop off at the beach, circling back to the house or using the village car park, but the distance is not great. This house is very suitable for those who prefer to avoid stairs. Everything is on one level and there are only a couple of small steps at the entrance.
Gorran Haven is much loved by young families in Summer - very good beach for babes and their parents. But there's also good fishing from the rocks and quay jumping (when the tide is in), for the older ones. The Cricket club bar and the Barley Sheaf pub in Gorran are within a short healthy walk. Cakebread's the village shop and bakery sells excellent fresh made pasties, a selection of wines and general groceries.
Gorran Haven and this area in general is a really lovely, wild and blowy place in winter. Quite a special place to retreat to. Kernewek has a log burner, double glazing and central heating...
