Looking from any of the front windows, or sitting on the front patio of the house, there is a sense of being near enough to be able to nip down to launch your boat on the beach. Assuming you go at normal pace though, the beach is about 4 minutes walk down the hill from the cottage. The cottage has been newly refurbished and is a pleasant combination of modern and traditional. It has a very light and airy aspect due to the elevated position of the terrace.

Cottage Layout

Front garden

The cottage can be approached through front or rear gardens and there is a paved pathway along the back and front of the cottage. Approaching from the front (seaward side) there is a level lawn with patio area next to the cottage. Here there is a cushioned bench and a cast iron outside dining table with 4 chairs.

A glazed front door opens into the sittingroom.

The Sitting Room has original floorboards and ceiling beams and a slate fireplace with log burner. Alcoves on either side of the fireplace contain books and games, also 28 inch tv, dvd player and elaborate stereo with cd, radio and cassette players.

living room with windows

Two three seater sofasare arranged around a coffee table and rug. The other end of the room has the staircase with dresser under and a further glazed door opens to the kitchen dining room at the rear.

The kitchen has a terracotta tiled floor and white fitted kitchen units at one end and pine dining table and seating for six below a dresser shelf at the other. There is a pleasant garden view through the rear window and from the dining table a nice open aspect through the sittingroom to the sea and cliffs beyond.

There is an electric cooker with ceramic hob and extractor hood over. Microwave and all the usual kitchen equipment. Udercounter fridge with freezer compartment. Beside the rear door there is a closed off alcove containg the washing machine and tumble dryer.

The rear door opens onto the pathway along the back of the terrace of cottages. On the other side of this, steps lead up to the rear garden.

The rear garden slopes up behind the house and has a level patio area and above this a small lawn and flower beds. Here there is a table and chairs for outside dining. At the top of the garden there is a secure stone built shed (containing the BBQ), which is suitable for bicycle & surf board storage.

Upstairs

Oatmeal carpetted stairs and upper floor. There are three very pretty bedrooms and a modern shower room with wc.

The double bedroom is at the front and has a white metal framed double bed from which there is a great view of the end of the quay and the harbour. There is white painted furniture, wardrobe and chest of drawers. Comfortably arranged with cushions and matching cutains in turquiose shades.

The single bedroom is also at the front and also has that lovely view. It has a three foot single bed and fitted wardrobe. Co-ordinated in a pale pink.

The twin bedroom has a pair of pine framed beds and large antique pine wardrobe. The window overlooks the garden behind. It is also nicely co-ordinated in soft purple with one wall papered in a lilac motif paper.

The shower room has glazed shower cubicle with a good electric shower. There is wc and pedestal sink. White tiled walls and high up a cheerful seagull motif wallpaper. There is a white wooden venetian blind over the window. From here there is a lovely view of the garden.

Parking The cottage does not at this time have a parking space but it is usually possible to park in the cul de sac behind the terrace where there is a five car undesignated bay. There is also the village car park about 6 minutes walk away.

Horizons has electric heating with modern wall radiators in all the rooms which can be turned on individually as required.

The Gardens and Beach access

The terrace is south facing and the rear garden is elevated behind the cottage, so both have a pleasant sunny aspect to sit and to dine. Neither garden is fully enclosed so care should be taken with young children.

Cliff Road in front of the cottage is a very narrow lane with bushy hedges. Further along this lane there is the coastal cliffpath taking you towards Mevagissey (3 miles) through some beautiful landscape. In the other direction, down the hill from the cottage, there are the two sandy beaches and the village main street which leads to the sea. There are a number of shops and cafes open in season, including a beach cafe and the main all year round shop, Cakebread's which has excellent bread and pasties made on the premises, also off licence and groceries, post office etc.

A short walk up the road the newly refurbished and very smart Llawnroc pub has a pleasant public bar and restaurant.

Location

Gorran Haven is a cheerful and friendly small village half way down the south coast of Cornwall. It is very much appreciated for its two sandy beaches and small harbour with quay. In summer the beaches team with families enjoying the sea, stream and rock pools.

There is a single main shop - Cakebread's - which is open all year and is the mainstay of the village being the bakers, grocery, off licence, newsagent and post office and run by the ever smiling Barbara Noott. Great pasties.

In season there are several other shops: a fish and chip shop and a beach cafe, a small cafe restaurant and the newly refurbished Llawnroc hotel and bar.

Nearby (a mile) in Gorran Churchtown there is a fine church and the (also newly refurbished) Barley Sheaf pub which serves St Austell Ales and meals. Heligan Gardens and the Eden Project are not far away by car and continue to be greatly enjoyed by visitors and locals alike. Eden has many interesting activities for children (den building, storey telling etc.).
